Patti C. Swartz

NORTH BENTON - Patti Swartz, an esteemed educator, and a lover of the arts, passed away peacefully at Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, on April 24, 2024. Born on September 18, 1943, in Salem, Patti lived a full, vibrant life dedicated to her family, her students, and her passions.

Known for her intelligence and unwavering commitment to education, Patti pursued academic excellence, culminating in earning her PhD. She then shared her knowledge and love for literature as an English Professor at Kent State University for over 30 years.

Beyond her professional achievements, Patti's heart shined brightest when surrounded by her family. She is survived by her son, George (Julie Laible) Swartz, and her legacy continues through her several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immeasurable joy to her life. Although she now joins her son, Ralph M. Swartz; her daughter, Edith Swartz; and her parents, Royal Stephens and Edith Lucille (Hively) Capel, who preceded her in death.

Patti was actively involved in various organizations, where her generosity, leadership, and volunteerism made a lasting impact. Her interests were diverse and reflected her love for the world around her. An avid reader and writer, she found solace and adventure within the pages of countless books. Her love for nature translated into stunning photography, capturing fleeting moments with a beauty that earned her many accolades.

Patti's creativity was not limited to the written word; her photography was a testament to her ability to see the extraordinary in the everyday. Each photo she took told a story, a piece of a larger narrative that celebrated the natural beauty she so loved.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Trumbull County Animal Welfare League, 812 Youngstown-Kingsville Road SE, Vienna, Ohio 44473.
