James Thompson Obituary

SALEM - James Arthur Thompson, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the age of 77 at his home in Salem. Jim was born on October 22, 1946, in Alliance, Ohio, the son of the late James R. and Marian (Bartlett) Thompson. His life was a testament to the enduring power of love, as seen in his devoted marriage to Carol (Manypenny) Thompson, whom he married on September 4, 1965. Together, they built a family that was Jim's pride and joy.

Sadly, Jim was preceded in death by his loving daughter, JoAnn Smith; siblings, Donald Thompson and Debra Fish.

He is survived by his dedicated son, James A. Thompson Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Doylestown; brothers, George Thompson and Jeff Thompson, both of Alliance, and sister, Jean McIlvain of Beloit. Jim's legacy continues through his five grandchildren, Kyler, Kasen, Kolton, Cameryn, and Cole, and his six great-grandchildren. Kruz, Carter, Remi, Keirstin, Kinsley, Kaylence, and Dixie. The family will hold dear the memory of his great-grandchild, Kaden, who predeceased him.

Jim's professional life was marked by his dedicated service in the Maintenance Department for The Timken Company, where he not only contributed his skills but also formed lasting friendships and bonds that extended well beyond his retirement.

A man of many interests, Jim was an active member of the Sleepy Hollow Country Club and the Knox Sportsman Club. His participation in the Timken Trap League showcased his love for community and sportsmanship. An outdoorsman at heart, Jim found joy and tranquility in horseback riding, camping, golfing, fishing, and hunting. These activities not only provided him with relaxation but also with cherished moments spent with family and friends.

Those who knew Jim would describe him as friendly, kind, and loving. His affable nature was a beacon of light that brought comfort and happiness to those around him. Jim's kindheartedness and genuine concern for others were evident in every interaction, making him a beloved figure in his community.

Jim's life was a beautiful tapestry of dedication to his family, commitment to his work, and service to his community. His memory will be forever cherished and kept alive in the stories told and the lives he touched.
